Belgian powerhouse Charlotte de Witte is returning to Australia in 2025, bringing her trademark ferocity to Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion on Friday, 6 March for a rare standalone city show ahead of her appearance at Pitch Music & Arts. For Australian techno fans, this is the kind of date you circle in red a chance to experience one of the most influential figures in modern electronic music at close range.
Few artists in techno command the kind of global devotion de Witte has cultivated. With more than 10 million fans worldwide, she has spent the past decade reshaping the genre’s landscape as a DJ, producer, and label boss. Her sound is uncompromising, stripped‑back, and relentlessly propulsive, has taken her from the basements of Ghent to the world’s most iconic stages, including Tomorrowland, Coachella, Lollapalooza, and even a headline performance at the Las Vegas Sphere.
Her dominance hasn’t gone unnoticed: de Witte has been crowned DJ Mag’s No.1 Techno DJ for five consecutive years (2020–2024), a streak that underscores her status as the genre’s defining force. In 2025, she broke new ground again, entering the DJ Mag Top 100 overall rankings at No. 9 as her first time inside the global top ten.
From Ghent’s Underground to Global Icon
Born in Ghent, Belgium in 1992, de Witte’s path into electronic music began in the city’s underground club scene around 2009. Drawn to the darker, more hypnotic corners of dance music, she started DJing in 2010, initially leaning toward electro. Her early breakthrough came in 2011 when she won a Studio Brussel DJ contest, earning her a slot at Tomorrowland a pivotal moment for the then‑emerging artist.
To sidestep the industry’s biases toward female DJs, she adopted the alias Raving George, releasing her debut EP in 2013. The project culminated in the 2015 hit “You’re Mine” with Oscar and the Wolf, which brought her widespread attention.
That same year, she shed the alias and embraced her real name, marking a decisive shift toward the harder, purer techno sound that would become her signature. Her debut EP as Charlotte de Witte, Weltschmerz, arrived on Turbo Recordings in 2015, followed by a steady stream of acclaimed releases including Heart of Mine and The Healer.
Her rise through the techno ranks was swift. Sets at Boiler Room, Printworks, and Junction 2 cemented her reputation as a commanding performer capable of holding massive crowds in a vice grip.
KNTXT: A Global Techno Platform
In 2019, de Witte launched KNTXT, a label and event series that has become a central hub for forward‑thinking techno. The imprint has hosted releases from heavyweights such as Chris Liebing, Monoloc, and Alignment, while also serving as a platform for de Witte’s own evolution.
More recently, she expanded her creative universe with Époque, a 2024 label dedicated to reimagining iconic Belgian tracks. That same year, she opened a temporary KNTXT Store in Brussels a physical expression of her growing cultural footprint.
Her connection to her hometown remains strong. In February 2025, she played a massive free set at Ghent’s Stadshal, drawing an astonishing 12,500 fans.
A Personal and Artistic Partnership
De Witte’s personal life has also intertwined with her artistic journey. In 2021, she announced her engagement to Italian techno producer Enrico Sangiuliano, and the pair released a joint remix of the trance classic “The Age of Love.” The track became one of the biggest techno releases of the decade, topping Beatport’s 2021 charts and earning a gold certification in 2022. The couple married later that year.
Sydney Awaits the Techno Queen
Her upcoming Sydney show promises the full force of her signature sound: pounding kicks, razor‑sharp percussion, and a hypnotic tension that builds into explosive peaks. For fans who crave techno at its most potent, this is a rare opportunity to experience de Witte in an intimate, high‑impact setting before she heads to the Victorian bush for Pitch.
With her global profile at an all‑time high and her artistic vision sharper than ever, Charlotte de Witte’s return to Australia feels like a victory lap and Sydney is about to feel the full weight of it.
