Southport Weekender is renowned for playing cutting edge music and selecting the connoisseur's choice of classics and forgotten gem. It's a musical education going to Southport as the DJ's there are serious! It's fitting to get a collection of tracks mixed by Jazzanova and Mr Scruff displaying a set at its best and mixed to perfection. Jazzanova are leading the way in 'Nu Jazz' creating a seriously groovy vibe that oozes sophistication and class. They mix CD1. And then there's Mr Scruff from the UK who is a real music innovator displays a master class in soul classics It captures the vibes of the Weekender.

CD1 is as you'd expect from Jazzanova is heavyweight. It's a very well mixed CD that has quality tunes and jazzy rhythms all the way through. It's designed to make you move and make you think. It's got great positivity and takes you on a dancing journey. I liked strong house music vibe and it was good to see world music elements in the mix like Madioko 'N' Rafika 'Elleli' (Kalabrese Remix. 'Promises' is a strong melodic track and the upbeat Recloose 'Cahtach A Leaf' (Mark de Clive Lowe Remix) adds great groove to CD2.

It's a match made in heaven. Two of the most innovative and influential producers of electronic music join forces for a very special project.
For the last few months Detroit legend Carl Craig and Berlin's dub-techno originator Moritz von Oswald have been busy recomposing three pieces from an original recording of the Berlin philharmonic orchestra from 1987, conducted by Helmut Karajan.
The quite simply breathtaking result will hit the shops on October 17th as the third part of the "Composed" series (Mathias Arfmann and Jimi Tenor were responsible for the first two parts) on Germany's renowned jazz label "Deutsche Grammophon".
Having to chose from the immense back catalogue of Deutsche Grammophon, the pair finally decided to recompose one of the biggest classical hits around: Maurice Ravel's "Bolero".
But not just that, they also recomposed Ravel's "Rapsodie Espagnola" and Modest Mussorgsky's "Bilder einer Ausstellung".

It’s been 10 years since Mike Shannon started making a name for himself on the international techno scene as a DJ, producer and label owner.

Now, having recently relocated to Berlin he’s crowning his first decade of active service with The Memory Tree, his third LP in all and the first for another notable Canadian export – Plus 8 Records. Anyone who knows his previous two albums will already be aware that Shannon’s music covers a broader spectrum than just minimal techno. In fact 2005’s “Possible Conclusions To Stories That Never End” was awash with downbeat electronica, highlighting a natural instinct for fusing rhythm and melody whatever the style or tempo. Although “Memory Tree” follows a more club oriented trajectory it retains much of the emotional response generated on “Possible Conclusions” and is all the better for it. As a result Shannon has put together a collection of tunes that are simultaneously dark and soulful, stays true to his roots while embracing the future and never fails to deliver a flurry of kick-ass, funk inflected beats.

The German photographer and artist Andreas Gursky and Sven Vath know each other for quite some time already. Now, Gursky has published a cycle of large-sized pictures that pick 'Cocoon' out as the central theme: The Cocoon pictures sre referring to the current club culture: Gursky uses the big Techno events Cocoon is staging as drafts. The architectural frame of his works is referring to the design of the CocoonClub Frankfurt. The spatial concept was developed by Techno Dj and musician Sven Vath, together with the design agency 3deluxe. Gursky's pictures refer to the graphic templates and thus form an ideal approach to the original CocoonClub. "Cocoon I" was already the cover of the 'Cocoon Morphs Tokyo' CD, which was released in spring in Japan exclusively. In autumn, this CD containing only exclusive tracks is to be released in Europe, too. However, Cocoon fans don't have to wait until then: six of the seven tracks of the CD will be released on three 12" vinyl records (that form the total of Gursky's picture when put together) in order to celebrate the 50th vinyl release of Cocoon Recordings. Here, excellent electronic music meets the work of the most important contemporary German artist worldwide -again, Cocoon explores new frontiers and combines art forms of the 21st century.

"A collection of older and rare Isan tracks, emerge from the Boards of Canada school of IDM, but with a pedigree all its own. With simple melodies and rhythms, they craft outwardly benign songs with heavy emotional undercurrents thrumming beneath. “Betty’s Lament,” for instance, is quietly beautiful, with a child’s sense of wonder about the universe. But lest you think it’s all melancholy and nostalgia, “Damil 85” comes along with a freeform wobbliness. Not all the tracks are as well-developed, however, but with short running times, they delight the ears just long enough to avoid getting too repetitive. The chiding vocal sample and childish tones of “Rron” is like Emily Post’s music box. At turns subtle and beguiling, you can wind this clockwork up again and again."
